About Us
Westminster Explained is the training branch of The House Magazine, which is the weekly journal for the House of Commons and the House of Lords.
Last year we celebrated our tenth year, during which our constant growth has enabled us to become the leading private sector provider of training and development to the public sector. We are a leading provider both of open courses, available to anyone from any department or organisation and held in central London, and of bespoke training programmes designed specifically to meet an organisational need.
Open Courses
Whether you’re looking for training on Parliament and Government, PSG core skills, effective communications or personal development, you’ll find a course or certificated programme to suit you on this website. Reacting to and meeting your needs is second nature to us and we are constantly updating our courses to make sure they are the best training you can get. If you’re matching the training with your competencies don’t worry; all our events are matched to the Professional Skills initiative. We pay attention to every detail, so we’ve been speaking to Government Skills to get their views and check our future plans. We’ve also got accreditation to NVQ level on many of our courses. The subjects covered in our programme range from introductory sessions on the workings of Parliament or the European Union, through to areas such as project management, policy development, communications, implementation of Freedom of Information and Human Rights legislation.

Professional qualifications and modular courses
Westminster Explained also offers a modular course in management skills and a comprehensive training course for Executive Officers, as well as a three-tier professional qualification: the Professional Certificate in Public Sector Delivery, the Certificate in Global Public Leadership and Administration, awarded by Fairleigh Dickinson University, and a Masters Degree, awarded by Fairleigh Dickinson University. We can also offer a course constituting an undergraduate degree completion programme.
