Analysis and Use of Evidence
Understanding what evidence based policy making is, why it's so important and how to do it are crucial skills for today's policymakers. This practical and interactive workshop looks at the techniques of gathering and handling evidence and presenting it in a way which takes account of the pressures under which Ministers and their senior advisers work. You will:
•explore what constitutes evidence based policy and examine why it's not always as straightforward as it seems
•identify different types of evidence and how to use them
•examine the place of judgement, experience, anecdote
•discuss how specialists and policymakers can collaborate to produce the best outcomes
•practise using evidence to work through a highly topical current issue and present your findings in a Ministerial line to take
•conclude with a brief look at policy evaluation
It's a busy day but you will emerge much better equipped to do your job.
