The Law of Judicial Review – the Government in Court

This practical workshop examines how, through the process of judicial review, the courts act as a check on government decision making. It deals with the grounds (including the effect of the Human Rights Act) on which a court will quash a decision made by a public body such as a government department or NDPB. Understanding this will help participants to develop decision making processes, and decisions, that are robust to challenge in the courts. The workshop also looks at the issue of working effectively with lawyers- how and when to involve them when working in an area where judicial review is a risk.
